Menu: Cambodia

Although there are many recipes in Cambodia with epically long ingredient lists, I chose a collection of unusual dishes with refreshingly short ingredient lists. Did I mention I have a 13-month old?

This Global Table Adventure, I’m most looking forward to trying the Cambodian Grilled Eggs – mostly because I am tickled by the idea of grilling a whole (yet seasoned) egg! Confused? Don’t worry. It will all be clear come Monday, when I post photos, recipes, and Ava’s video review. Special thanks toΒ Karen Coates – Β accomplished journalist, traveler, and one of my favorite bloggers – who was kind enough to hunt down a Khmer friend for an authentic recipe for me to adapt. It’s going to be mmm, mmm, good!

Grilled Corn with Coconut Milk [Recipe]
Sweet corn basted in coconut milk and grilled until tender.

Cambodian Grilled Eggs [Recipe]
Egg mixed with fish sauce, sugar, and pepper, then poured back into the shell and grilled.

Chicken and Pickled Lime Soup [Recipe]
A light broth made with chicken, sour pickled lime, green onion, and fresh garlic.

Pickled Cambodian Limes [Recipe]
Limes, dried in the hot summer sun, are then pickled in salted water.
Tip: Slice and serve in sugar and soda water for a sweet and salty drink.

I am so enjoying your vicarious travels! I don’t have a small child, and I *still* appreciate recipes with short ingredient lists. Can’t wait to hear how the eggs turn out, and will be trying the corn myself!

Thanks Ann! Sometimes I really have to hunt for simple recipes – but I find they are often the tastiest! I hope you like the corn πŸ™‚

  3. I’m looking forward to the corn. It is hard to grill corn and not have it come out tough and dry. I’ll bet the coconut milk will help a lot. Good idea!
PS. I don’t know if my hand is steady enough to get the re-filled egg shell on the grill without dumping it on the way! That may be a job for younger, steadier cooks! Ha! πŸ™‚

The eggs are going to be interesting, that’s for sure … I hope I can do it! πŸ™‚ As for the corn, I’ll have my husband grill it so he can take the heat if it gets dried out – ha πŸ˜‰

      • Oh sure! Blame it on the guy. No wonder we die younger! Oh, the pressure we face every day! πŸ™‚
Seriously, I am looking forward to hearing about this corn. I love grilled corn and would love a foolproof method for my files.
